Harry Maguire sent a brilliant reply to Bruno Fernandes on Instagram after the Portuguese midfielder’s opening day hat-trick against Leeds.

Fernandes scored the opener for Manchester United against Leeds, before extending their lead to 3-1 and then 4-1 as they put five past their rivals at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon

It was the first hat-trick of his United career and the fan favourite celebrated by posting a snap of himself on his Instagram account with the match ball strapped in to his car’s passenger seat.

He included the caption: “I’m bringing something new for our living room decor,” tagging in his wife Ana Pinho.

The post received plenty of love from fans and teammates with the likes of Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, Jesse Lingard, David De Gea, Juan Mata and Aaron Wan-Bissaka sending congratulatory messages, but it was the comment from captain Maguire that got everyone laughing.

After often receiving criticism for the amount of penalties he scores, all three of Fernandes’ strikes came from open play in this game and Maguire was quick to remind opposing fans of the stick they give him.

The England defender’s comment under the post read “3 great penalties mate” followed with a handshake, wink face and fire emoji.

The comment has received over 22,000 likes under the post and was noticed by Manchester United fans online on other platforms too.

Since joining the club in January 2020, Fernandes has contributed to 48 goals in the Premier League — more than any other player — and has become a fan favourite at the club for his maverick style of play.

Both players featured for the full 90 minutes as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side controlled the game for the vast majority and went to the top of the Premier League on goals scored.
